Aristotle Drama

We all know by now that Aristotle bar was raided by NDLEA, if u dint know now u know. NDLEA raided the place on Friday night/Saturday morning, i know u will say NA wa o! but i tell you its true! Dakova who is the owner was arrested and was taken to his hotel room and was checked, rigth now don't KNOW if anything was found, but i hope not. A girl was also arrested because they found 3 raps of weed with her. But rumor has it that it was a set up by someone, who didn't pay his complete bill last week and Dakova clamped his tyre. NA WA O!
After everything people acted like noting had happened, and continued dancing and having fun till 7am, Trust ABJ people, they no send!

They didn’t win but they did us PROUD! MI & P-Square at the 2010 BET Awards

African music fans were ecstatic when they learned that some of their top stars had been nominated for the BET Awards. Flying the flag for the Nigerian music industry were MI and P-Square.

Last week, Peter & Paul Okoye of P-Square and MI sojourned from Lagos, Nigeria to the USA. MI stopped by New York where he met with the press and appeared on BET’s 106 & Park. P-Square held a press conference where they discussed their BET nomination and their US Tour which is kicking off this week.

Then it was off to LA, the nominees thoroughly enjoyed their BET experience. There was a party held in their honour by BET & Anabel Mobile. Guests at the event included Anabel brand ambassador – Meagan Good, Talk show host – Wendy Williams alongside MI & P-Square. We have photos from the event below.
In addition, they participated in other BET social activities and got to meet many of the top Hip Hop acts including Drake.

Finally, the big night! P-Square represented Nigeria in green outfits while MI kept it classic in a grey blazer paired with a black shirt and a pair of black stunners.

The best international act award eventually went to the UK’s Dizzee Rascal who is coincidentally of Nigerian origin as well so we claim it!

All the same it was a fun night. An emotional Michael Jackson tribute by Chris Brown, showstopping performances by Kanye West, Eminem, Diddy, Nikki Minaj and a host of stars.

A good night for Black Entertainment.

Yahoo, Yahoo in de Hostel

funny photo! But which school is this?

Yes'sah, No'sah

Colonialism.

There are still remnants of that era in Nigerian culture. I really can't help but notice it. I often wonder how much of what we now see as African culture is a strange meshing of colonial oppression and actual African tradition. Sp much has been erased, hidden, destroyed and ignored as not being credible throughout the years in terms of recording history that I wonder whether the culture we see as authentically African is truly what it was 'back in the day'. And when I say authentically African, please picture Chinua Achebe's book Things Fall Apart, the poster-child piece of literature that apparently tells the world what it's like in Nigeria. Don't get me wrong, I love the book. But it's just one, eloquently told, no less, narrative of the so-called African experience. But I digress.

I am torn about my Nigeria and the things we call respect, specifically in the area of respect for our elders. It is common knowledge in Nigeria that you cannot greet your elders by saying 'hi'. In every language, there are nuances and elaborate measures taken in greeting those who senior us in age and sometimes even, position (social class). In every culture, there are gestures to be taken in greeting, from dips to prostrations, from curtsies to bows. I don't have a problem with the elaborate ten-minute greetings, although it can easily become rather laborious and uncomfortable. I don't even mind that in the Yoruba culture, for instance, boys are demanded to lay on the floor on their stomachs to greet or touch their right foot with thier left hand to greet. It is in these conversations where I cringe internally:

Child: Good morning sah!
Elder: How are you, my son?
Child: Fine, sah.
Elder: How is Mommy?
Child: She's fine, sah
Elder: Daddy, nko?
Child: He's fine sah
Elder: Ah good good, well done, eh?
Child: Yes sah thank you sah
Elder: Study well o so that you can follow your father's wise footsteps
Or other of such wise counsel passed on often from older members of society to the younger ones.
Child: Yessah

Ok without me going on and on, cos these sorts of conversations can really be elaborate - Nigerians love to hear themselves talk! - you can see where I'm going. I did well in one in African Studies which was one of the courses i took in DE university, so you can further understand why I cringe. This is very reminiscent of the slave mentality when African slaves were forced into the 'yessah' culture. Whether you liked what was being said to you or not, the response was 'yessah'. Whether you even fully understood, whether your automatic 'yessah' response even made sense to the conversation being had, your response was the standard: 'yessah'. And so I cringe. Is this what respect is? A rambling of sah's and maam's. And I cannot help but note who the victims of this culture are: those lower class in society and those who are not the CEOs or Directors or so-called Big Men or Big Women, the ones who do not have drivers to drive their jeeps and heavy-duty cars.

Do you see the parallels now? I wonder what would be said if I bring this up as a challenge to the fundamentals of our culture.

Germany vs Ghana, Jerome Boateng vs Kevin-Prince Boateng

Jerome Boateng & Kevin-Prince Boateng

Jerome Boateng

Kevin-Prince Boateng

Germany faces Ghana this evening with the winners guaranteed a place in the Last-16. However, the real story of the night will be the battle of opposing brothers as Kevin-Prince Boateng 23,will be representing Ghana while his brother Jerome 21, represents Germany.

Never in the history of football have two brothers taken to the opposite end of the pitch in an international match at the same time.

Although, in 2008 two brothers did play at opposite ends in a friendly between a France "A" team and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Unfortunately neither brother was on the pitch at the same time as the other.

To add further spice to this encounter, neither brother has spoken to the other after Jerome chose to break off contact following Kevin-Prince's much maligned tackle on, German captain, Michael Ballack in the FA Cup Final.

Born to a Ghanaian father and German mothers, the two players have dual nationality and could declare for either country. However, with both players having represented nation of birth at underage levels, it was always expected they would eventually break into the senior squad.

The Boateng family grew up in the tough Berlin suburb of Wedding, the two boys, along with their other brother, George, saw football as a way to escape the rampant unemployment in the multi-cultural melting pot of an area with 26 percent of the population are without work.
I wonder how it feels?

SONG OF THE WEEK

Its mid-week, and when i get to review the song of the week! this song is one song i know most young people love so much, its HOLD YUH! BY GYPTIAN. This is one of the very few songs i get to like at the 1st hearing, all the DJs in town play this song like mad both on radio and in clubs, i know i heard it every where i went to over the weekend! Omo the remix with Nicki Minaj is the shit! I know some girls who were on their way out of the club, when they heard this song, they all ran back inside to dance to it. The song has this Jamaican vibe with some sexual feel, it can led you to making love on the dance floor, na so? lol! Lovely song!

A Lil About GYPTIAN.

In 2005, the previously unknown singer rose to international acclaim when his debut single Serious Times hit the top of the local and overseas reggae charts, and defeated even Junior Gongs Top Ten Billboard hit Welcome to Jamrock, to be declared Jamaicas Most Important Song of 2005. Nominated for Best New Entertainer at the 2006 International Reggae and World Music Awards, the twenty-three year old velvet-voiced singer has been dominating the charts with a slew of hit singles including Is There a Place, Beautiful Lady, and the chart-topping ballad Mama, Dont Cry.
Born Windel Beneto Edwards on October 25th, in the King Weston District of St. Andrew to a Seventh Day Adventist mother and Rastafarian father, Gyptian received his musical calling at the age of 7, when he began singing in the church. Recognizing his God-given talent, his parents soon introduced the resistant youngster to Mr. Wong, a producer from Portmore in St. Catherine. I did not take it seriously. My family members have always been carrying me to Portmore to see him, but I usually disappear. One day, they dropped me off at his studio and left me and it all began there.

Under the guidance of Mr. Wong and Earl Chinna Smith, Gyptian honed his unique sound, winning the 2004 Star Search talent competition at Kens Wild Flower Lounge in Portmore, earning him a spot at Sting 2004, dubbed the greatest one night reggae show on earth.

Nicknamed from his habit of tying a shirt around his head and twisting his chin hair like an Egyptian pharaoh, the young, gifted, and conscious singer is very protective of keeping his sound 100% Gyptian. You have to think about what people think and how they feel, the real things that people see. Any track at all you hear from Gyptian, right by my fingers out of my head."

With his highly anticipated debut album due in late 2006, Gyptian looks forward to sharing his musical message with the masses. At this juncture in my life, I live, eat, and breathe musicthe very air that comes from my mouth brings words of power and wisdom. I have the urge to teach my brothers and sisters until eternity."

Nigerian Legialtors in bloody physical fight...

Members of the Federal House of Representatives yesterday engaged in a free -for-all fight[Violence and assault] on the floor of the house as the Progressives led by Mr. Dino Melaye opposed to the embattled speaker of the house, Dimeji Bankole, tried to introduce a motion for his impeachment. They were suspended until the end of this legislative session and a fight ensued between ‘honourable members’.

What a shame!

Well done PRAIZ!

Funny Photos

I don laugh die! fell off my chair when i saw this photos, just had to show u guys! enjoy!

In focus: Super Eagles Sani Kaita

Did you all see what this fool guy did in our match with Greece? He more or less cost us this match.

He got a red card for violently kicking out at Vasilas Torosidis in the 33rd minute and it's by far one of the silliest fouls/tackles I've ever seen in my life. Totally uncalled for and such behaviour should not be tolerated.

This is what he did...

With Nigeria up 1-0 after an early goal, Kaita and Torosidis came together in an awkward clash as they both chased down a wayward ball and Torosidis collected it for a throw in. Torosidis made like he was going to shove the ball at Kaita, who almost reflexively kicked out at the Greek defender, grazing his leg with his foot. Well, Torosidis made the most of it and went to the ground with dramatic flair to be sure the referee saw what happened. He did and Kaita was sent off.

Hiss!

A lot of people in Hollywood seem to be turning bisexual these days! Cameron Diaz, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Fergie...etc

"I've never said this before, but I am a proud bisexual woman."

Bi-sexuality is a sign of confusion. Make up your mind already. Man or woman? :-)

eLDee, Don Jazzy and Banky W give out recharge cards on twitter

How many of you witnessed the madness on twitter last night and this morning with our Naija music stars and their fans? Hundreds of recharge cards were given out by eLDee, Don Jazzy and Banky W.

Rapper eLDee actually started the whole thing by giving out recharge cards to a few fans, then Don Jazzy followed suit, and in a style befitting of a Don, he went all out...he probably gave out over 50 recharge cards yesterday.

Banky W gave his out this morning after posting this status message on FB - Ladies and gentlemen, today's my official Giveaway Day. Except it's on twitter. So u have a little time right now to go on twitter.com and follow @BankyW I'm giving away recharge cards, pizza, and movie tickets. Just a very small token of appreciation for the fans that make my job worthwhile. Love you guys. Giveaway starts shortly... Go on twitter now."

Banky tweeted the pic of the cards above.

On a funny note - one of the fans asked Banky W: "Recharge card is good but when will you be given out phones and cars?"
Banky replied "When I have Oprah money"

LOL!

Binta Sukai (Miss Nigeria 1990), Nike Oshinowo (Pageant organiser), Vien Tetsola (Miss Nigeria 1999/2000), Ene Lawani (Miss Nigeria 2004)

This year we have watched lots of pageants live or on our tv sets at home, like the Mr Nigeria and The Most Beautiful girl in Nigeria pageants. But now the Miss Nigeria Pageant is coming back - after a six-year hiatus. And for the first time in the history of the pageant, it will be activated in three continents; Africa, Europe and North America.

Chief executive officer, and creative director of the pageant, Nike Oshinowo-Soleye, disclosed this at a media parley which held at Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, some days ago. According to her, that the new ‘Miss Nigeria Pageant' will once again showcase positive attributes of the Nigerian woman, namely - elegance, poise, talent, intelligence and as well as beauty.

Okay its pass 11am and i still fell i should go back home and sleep, i think a can of Energy drink will help me stay awake so i can work! Well i had fun last night( A weekday ) a Wednesdays night for that matter. I was enjoying my sleep oh, but got so many calls from friends, that i should get my ass off the bed, so my friend Sani had to come to my house to drag me off my bed! We all went to Krystal lounge, at wusa 2 ABUJA! Really that's one of the list place that would come to mind for us to hang out (for obvious reasons), but it was the only place we saw people making merry! We had fun sha! Two bottle of JD and coke, people who do not drink like my friend Sani had only coke and nice pepper meat, which we all enjoyed.
Krystal lounge: We all love to hate this place (for obvious reasons), but we have all gone in there at least once in the past three months, you know why? Christiano Ronaldo in Armani

Christiano Ronaldo in Armani.

The 25 yr old footballer's latest modeling pictures for Armani Jeans and Armani Underwear have just been unveiled, giving David Beckham's campaign a run for his money. The ad campaign will roll out worldwide in July, with billboards across London, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

With that kind of body and money, I'm not surprised he has girlfriends in twenty different countries...

Government give prostitutes in Abuja 48hours to leave the city

Government has given prostitutes in the Federal Capital City of Abuja forty eight hours to vacate the city or face arrest.*
Huh???

Song of the week

Except you are living in a remote cave somewhere, you know that the 2010 World Cup is going on right now! For the first time ever, the competition is being hosted in Africa – South Africa to be precise.
Music and sports have always been complimented each other so its no surprise that a slew of ‘Official World Cup’ songs have been released, but the one that stands out its the song of the week, Its SHAKIRA ft Freshly Ground’s "Waka Waka" time for Africa, I have played this song over and over on my phone and i-pod my lil i-pod says, played 113 times! na so i like ham reach o! i even heard it 1st time in a bar or club in abj last nite when i was out wit my cousins Chuchu and Kay, Omo see people singing and dancing to the song, i loved it! B4 i forget it was my uncles B.day yesterday, i had mad fun wit family and friends of the family! I know its coming late on my blog but happy B.DAY Uncle. CAPTAIN S.IBERAHIM wish you many more years to come! Back to the song, the song was originally written by a Cameroon band called Zangalewa. It appears Shakira reinterpreted the song without permission of the band, and after legal intervention by the band, an undisclosed deal was struck with Sony. What do u all think about the song! For me Shakira did a good job she nailed it! ITS TIME FOR AFRICA BABY!

KNOW A LIL' ABOUT UR DISTRICTSN IN ABJ

Central District

Skyline Of Abuja Central District
Abuja's Central District is located between the foot of Aso Rock and into the Three Arms Zone to the southern base of the ring road. It is like the city's spinal cord, dividing it into the northern sector with Maitama and Wuse, and the southern sector with Garki and Asokoro. While each district has its own clearly demarcated commercial and residential sectors, the Central District is the city's principal Business Zone, where practically all parastatals and multinational corporations have their offices located. An attractive area in the Central District is the region known as the Three Arms Zone, so called because it houses the administrative offices of the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the Federal Government. A few of the other sites worth seeing in the area are the Federal Secretariats alongside Shehu Shagari Way, Aso Hill, the Abuja Plant Nursery, Eagle Square (which has important historic significance,as it was in this grounds that the present democratic dispensation had its origin in May 29, 1999) and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier across the road facing it. The National Mosque and National Church are located opposite each other on either side of Independence Avenue. A well known government office is the Ministry of Defence, popularly nicknamed "Ship House".

Garki District

Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters in Abuja
The Garki District is the area in the southwest corner of the city, having the Central District to the north and the Asokoro District to the east. The District is subdivided into units called "Areas". Garki uses a distinctive naming convention of "Area" to refer to parts of Garki. These are designated as Areas 1 to 11. Garki II is used to differentiate the area from Garki Area 2. Visitors may at first find this system of names confusing. Garki is presently the principal business district of Abuja. Numerous buildings of interest are located in this area. Some of them include the General Post Office, Abuja International Conference Center located along the busy Herbert Maculay Way, Nicon Luxury Hotel (formally known as Abuja Sofitel Hotel and Le Meridian), Agura Hotel and Old Federal Secretariat Complex Buildings (Area 1). A new 5 star hotel, Hawthorn Suites Abuja is also located in Garki II. Area 2 is mainly used for residential purposes, although a zoological garden as well as Garki Shopping Center are located in Area 2. Several banks and other commercial offices are located along Moshood Abiola Way in Area 7. The Headquarters of the Nigerian Armed Forces, namely Army Headquarters, Airforce Headquarters and Navy Headquarters are all located in the Garki District. The tallest building in this district is the Radio House, which houses the Federal Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Stations and Corporate Headquarters are also based in Garki. The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) which oversees and runs the Administration of the Federal Capital Territory has its offices in Garki. The Office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is located in Area 10. Other places of note include the Arts and Culture Center and The Nigerian Police Mobile Force Headquarters in Area 10. The Abuja Municipal Area Council, which is the local Government administration has its headquarters in Area 10. The new United States Embassy is also located in the Garki district.

Wuse District

A house in Wuse District, a Suburban Area of Abuja
Wuse District is the northwestern part of the city, with the Maitama District to its north and the Central District to its south. The District is numbered Zones 1-8. The Wuse Market is Abuja's principal market (Zone 5). The second most important Post Office in the city is located here. This district also houses the Sheraton Hotel and Towers (Zone 4), Ibro International hotel, the Foreign Affairs Ministry Headquarters (Zone 1) and Nigerian Customs Services Headquarters, Corporate Affairs Commission (Zone 5), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), National Agency For Food And Drugs Administration (NAFDAC) (Zone 7), Wuse General Hospital, and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation. Just as Garki District has Garki II, Wuse has Wuse II. This is distinct from Wuse Zone 2.

Maitama District

National Communications Headquarters, Abuja.
Maitama District is to the north of the city, with the Wuse and Central Districts lying to its southwest and southeast respectively. This area is home to the top bracket sections of society and business, and has the reputation of being very exclusive and very expensive. Interesting buildings include the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, National Communications Commission Headquarters (NCC), National Universities Commission (NUC), Soil Conservation Complex, and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The British High Commission is located along Aguiyi Ironsi Way, in Maitama. Also, the Maitama District Hospital is another notable building in Maitama. Maitama District is home to many of the European embassies in Nigeria.

Asokoro District

Abuja Residential Duplex in Asokoro District.
Asokoro District, the doyen of all the districts, houses all of the state's lodges/guest houses. The ECOWAS secretariat is a focal point of interest. Asokoro is located to the east of Garki district and south of Central district. It is one of the most exclusive districts of Abuja and houses virtually all of the federal cabinet ministers; in addition, the Presidential Palace (Aso Rock) is located in Asokoro district. By virtue of this fact, Asokoro is the most secured area of the city.

Gwarimpa District

One of Abuja's smaller shopping centers.
Gwarimpa is the last district located in the Abuja Municipal Area Council. It contains the largest single housing estate in Nigeria, called the Gwarimpa Housing Estate. The Estate was built by the Administration of General Sani Abacha and is the largest of its kind in Africa . It provides residence for the majority of the civil servants in Federal Ministries and government parastatals. The ECOWAS Court has an official quarters for the President and Members of the Court in Gwarimpa

A LITTLE ABOUT ABUJA!

Abuja is the capital city of the West African nation of Nigeria. It is located in the center of Nigeria in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Abuja is a planned city[2], and was built mainly in the 1980s. It officially became Nigeria's capital on 12 December 1991, replacing Lagos, the previous capital. As of the 2006 census, the Federal Capital Territory has a population of 778,567.

In light of the ethnic and religious divisions of Nigeria, plans had been devised since Nigeria's independence to have its capital in a location deemed neutral to all parties. The location was eventually designated in the centre of the country in the early 1970s as it signified neutrality and national unity. Another impetus for Abuja came because of Lagos' population boom that made that city overcrowded and conditions squalid. The logic used was similar to how Brazil planned its capital Brasília. Construction broke ground and was dedicated in the late 1970s, but due to economic and political instability, the initial stages of the city were not complete until the late 1980s.
The master plan for Abuja and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was developed by International Planning Associates (IPA), a consortium made up of three American firms: Planning Research Corporation; Wallace, McHarg, Roberts and Todd; and Archisystems, a division of the Hughes Organization. The master plan for Abuja defined the general structure and major design elements of the city that are visible in the city's current form. More detailed design of the central areas of the capital, particularly its monumental core, was accomplished by Kenzo Tange, a renowned Japanese architect, along with his team of city planners at Kenzo Tange and Urtec company.
Most countries relocated their embassies to Abuja, and many maintain their former embassies as consulates in Lagos, still the commercial capital of Nigeria.
Abuja is the headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS. It also has the regional headquarters of OPEC.
Abuja and the FCT have experienced huge population growth; it has been reported that some areas around Abuja have been growing at 20 to 30% per year.[3] Squatter settlements and towns have spread rapidly in and outside the city limits.[2][4] Tens of thousands of people have been evicted since former FCT Minister Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai started a demolition campaign in 2003.[5]
The Phase 1 area of the city is divided into five (5) districts. They are the Central, the Garki, Wuse, Maitama, and Asokoro. There are also five districts in Phase 2. They are Kado, Durumi, Gudu, Utako and Jabi. And the Phase 3 districts are Mabuchi, Katampe, Wuye and Gwarimpa. There are also five suburban districts, which are Nyanya, Karu, Gwagwalada, Kubwa, and Jukwoyi. Along the Airport Road are clusters of satellite settlements, namely Lugbe, Chika, Kuchigworo and Pyakassa. Other satellite settlements are Idu (the main industrial zone), Mpape, Karimu, Gwagwa, Dei-Dei (housing the International Livestock market and also International Building materials market
